It’s nearly Christmas!

This message would normally have been published in Cheney Chatter, but as it has not been published at all this year, I hope this reaches you.

I had not expected to take over as Chairman at the beginning of the year and would like to thank our former Chairman, Alan Youel, for the time and dedication he put into being our Chairman for so many years.

The village has faced a few challenges during the year, particularly COVID19, so thank you to all the residents who came together to volunteer and support vulnerable members of the community.

We have not been able to do any of the usual things such as the scarecrow trail in May and the Month of Madness in August this year, but residents came out and clapped for carers and keyworkers and put on displays for VE75 day and Remembrance Sunday.

The Parish Council has continued its work by holding Zoom meetings every month and engaging with residents by phone, email and even, very occasionally (socially distanced) face-to-face, because there are always problems with parking, speeding and occasionally fly-tipping and dog waste.

Our village is still under pressure from developers putting in applications one of which has been approved and one is going to Appeal in the new year. The Parish Council does listen to complaints and keeps resisting the pressure, but we need the support of residents as well, your voices matter just as much as ours does. The Neighbourhood Plan is still progressing unfortunately not as quickly as we had hoped due to COVID restrictions.

Next year we will be seeing changes in governance when our part of the county becomes part of West Northants and we lose both the county and district councils. We will have to wait and see what these changes are and how they will affect our village.

Thank you to all our Parish Councillors for their support, particularly to the Clerk during a very strange and trying year.

Finally, above all look out for each other and look after yourselves and I take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and healthy Christmas and a happy New Year.
