Early spring at Canons Ashby

Early spring at Canons Ashby

Canons Ashby reopens for a new season on 3 February, just in time for the early spring blooms. If you visit in February or March, watch out for little clusters of spring bulbs here and there splashing the ground with whites, purples and yellows. The spring bulbs have been improving year on year so we're hoping for even more Snowdrops in 2020, mostly situated on the main path between car park and house.

This time last year I shared news of our new staircase carpet, made on a loom nearly 100 years old – this has now been completed and is in place in the house. We have made a video about it which is available to view on our website from the end of January, so you can see the historic loom in action and find out more about this work.

You can find out more about the work that's going on to care for Canons Ashby on our website. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/canons-ashby

What's on?
We have plenty of events and activities listed on our website, including ones much later in the year which need to be booked in advance, so please have a look at the full list.

Bugs and beasties trail

15 – 23 February 10-3pm

Find out more about some of the tiny creatures that live at Canons Ashby and get out in the fresh air together. Bring your wellies! It may be a squelchy adventure.

Normal admission prices apply

Make a bird feeder

Weds 19 –Thurs 20 February 11-2pm

Make a pine cone bird feeder for our feathered friends at this chilly time of year and have a look at our nature collection. Then take it home to feed the birds where you live. Normal admission prices apply

Archaeology handling, and kids' clay making

21 February 11-2pm

Have a look at some real archaeological objects and chat with our volunteers. For younger visitors they can try making something special out of clay to take home for £1. Normal admission prices apply

Family Storytelling

Sat 7 March 11.30-2pm

Bring your little ones and listen to a story in honour of World Book Day earlier this week. Our storyteller has a selection of stories for younger children, so why not pop in and settle down for a tale together? Normal admission prices apply
