Middleton Cheney By-election for a District Councillor

Middleton Cheney By-election for a District Councillor, Thursday 12 September 2019

Poll cards will be landing on doorsteps for all electors already registered and eligible to vote in this by-election. If you live in Middleton Cheney, Overthorpe or Warkworth and are not yet registered to vote, you have until midnight on Tuesday 27 August to register to be able to vote in this by-election. The easiest way to register is online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote Registering takes 5 minutes, and you will need your National Insurance number and date of birth details to complete the process. Those eligible electors who register before the deadline will receive a letter confirming they are able to vote.

Postal Votes

If you are already registered (or register before the deadline), but will be away on polling day, you can apply for a postal vote. Completed applications must be received by us by 5pm on Wednesday 28 August. If you have printing and scanning facilities you can download an application form from www.yourvotematters.co.uk, fill it in and email it to elections@cherwellandsouthnorthants.gov.uk or post to the Elections Team, The Forum, Moat Lane, Towcester, NN12 6AD.

Forms have to be printed off as we need to have a proper signature provided rather than a typed name. If you don't have access to a printer, then contact the team on 01327 322128 and we will post a form to you.

Postal votes will be sent out in two batches, the first around Tuesday 27 August (for permanent postal voters and applications received by 7 August) and the second around Monday 2 September (for applications received between 8 August and 5pm on 28 August).

If you already have a postal vote, but you will be away when they are sent out, you can change the address your vote is sent to, or you can cancel it altogether. To change or cancel your postal vote you must let us know in writing (letter or email) by 5pm on 28 August; each person who wants to cancel a postal vote must contact us individually. You can email us at elections@Cherwellandsouthnorthants.gov.uk or post a letter to the Elections Team at The Forum. Remember that if you change the delivery address or cancel your postal vote, you will then need to submit a new postal application form for future elections.

Proxy Votes

If you are going to be away on polling day and don't want a postal vote, you can appoint a proxy – a trusted relative or friend (who must be registered to vote themselves) to vote on your behalf in your usual polling station. Completed proxy applications must be received by us by 5pm on Wednesday 4 September. If you have access to printing and scanning facilities you can download an application form from www.yourvotematters.co.uk, fill it in and email to elections@cherwellandsouthnorthants.gov.uk or post to Elections Team, The Forum, Moat Lane, Towcester, NN12 6AD. If you don't have access to a printer then contact the team and we will post a form to you.

We will write to your proxy to confirm they have been appointed.

All of the deadlines referred to above are statutory deadlines and the Elections Team has no discretion to amend.

Polling Station

The Polling Station for this by-election is the Sports and Social Club on Astrop Road, due to a prior booking in the usual venue of the Village Hall. Poll cards will include a message advising of the change of venue.

Hours of poll are 7am – 10pm.

As with any election, candidates are responsible for their own publicity and the Elections Team can only advise the information published on the election notices.
