Citizen information leads to fines for fly-tipping and dog fouling

Posted: Tue, 05 Jun 2018 14:54 by Alan Youel

A man who dumped unwanted clothes and a dog walker who failed to clear up after their animal were ordered to pay a combined total of £200 after Fixed Penalty Notices (FPN) were issued by South Northamptonshire Council (SNC) last month.

In March, a woman walking a dog in King's Sutton was recorded on private CCTV allowing the animal to defecate on a public footpath and was then seen to walk away without clearing it up.Then in April, those taking part in the Passenham community litter pick came across a black bin sack and a carrier bag containing men's clothes. In both cases SNC's environmental enforcement team were able to identify the individuals responsible and they were invited to be interviewed at the council's offices in Towcester. They both admitted their offences and accepted and paid fines; the dog walker £50 and the fly-tipper £150.Cllr Dermot Bambridge, SNC's portfolio holder for environmental services, said: "Fly-tippers and dog foulers beware, there doesn't have to be an environmental enforcement officer on every corner. The vast majority of responsible citizens of this district are also watching."To report an incident of dog fouling or fly-tipping click on the Report tab at the top of the SNC website, visit - www.southnorthants.gov.uk/reportor call 01327 322322.
